For Officer Scale I: a Preliminary examination of 80 questions and 80 marks in 45 minutes, then a Main examination of 200 questions and 200 marks in 120 minutes, then an interview. Candidates must qualify in both preliminary tests. In the Main examination candidates choose either the English or the Hindi language test, not both. One fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer; blanks are not penalised.
