Exam pattern
Paper-I · General Ability and Intelligence
Objective (multiple answers) type, set in English and Hindi. Held 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Evaluated first — Paper-II is only marked for candidates who clear the minimum qualifying mark here.
Paper-II · General Studies, Essay and Comprehension
Held 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The essay component may be written in English or Hindi; precis writing, comprehension and other language-skill components must be in English only. There are separate minimum qualifying marks for each paper, fixed at the Commission’s discretion.
Physical Standards Tests and Physical Efficiency Tests
For candidates who qualify in the written examination. Candidates who fail the PET are not called for interview.

Medical Standards Tests
Conducted only for candidates who have appeared in the Interview or Personality Test, against the standards in Appendix-V of the notice.
Topic-wise syllabus
Paper-I · General Ability and Intelligence
Objective paper covering general mental ability, general science, current events of national and international importance, Indian polity and economy, history of India, and Indian and world geography.
Paper-II · General Studies, Essay and Comprehension
Descriptive paper. Essay questions may be answered in English or Hindi; comprehension, precis writing, developing counter-arguments, simple grammar and other language-testing components are in English only.
